Vintage LeMoyne Star Reproduction Quilt Timeline
This is another replica of a “cutter” quilt that I bought on eBay. I went a little crazy buying vintage quilts and parts for a few weeks there. In addition to this Lemoyne Star quilt I also bought a Chrome Yellow and Double Pink Antique LeMoyne Star Quilt and a half-dozen unfinished pieces of things ranging from Ocean Waves to Double Wedding Ring. Like most of these things, as soon as I saw them I knew that I wanted to either finish them or make replicas of them.
This particular quilt took a long while to get its turn, and in the middle it got given away and borrowed back again because I knew I’d never use the quilt myself for fear of destroying it. But at least it’s finally going to get the peace it deserves when the replica is finished.
Started: May 15, 2007
RE-Started: April 30, 2018
May 15, 2007: I buy a “cutter” quilt on eBay, a vintage LeMoyne Star quilt and it is AMAZING. Not only can I not cut it up, but I decide to preserve it and make a replica since I want to preserve the original. I pack the quilt up and keep it in storage. It moves with us to the new house, where it lives on a shelf on display.
February 25, 2014: I go through a fit of UFO disposal and give this quilt to my quilting friend so it will get used and be out of my house.
April 20, 2018: I can’t stop thinking about this quilt, though. So I borrow the original quilt back from my friend to be photographed.
April 30, 2018: I pull a pair of prints for every star in the quilt and photograph them all so I can begin cutting.
March 1, 2019: Several other quilts take up my time, but I am able to make a test block to ensure my pattern works (math!) and it looks great!
March 14, 2019: I start cutting. It’s very slow since I have to do each block separately and I’m making three copies! One for myself, one for my friend and one for another friend I promised a replica to.
