Saturday Improv Quilt Timeline
Started: May 27, 2014
Finished: May 11, 2016
May 27, 2014: A friend of mine wants to learn to quilt. I try to get her started on an Irish Chain, but she’s hoping for something more forgiving. I decide to have her try some improv quilting. She comes over on Saturdays and starts putting things up on the design wall. At first it’s just a huge collage of overlapping fabric strips, layers deep.
February 22, 2015: After nearly a year of Saturdays, the quilt top is finished and the backing is in progress. Unfortunately my friend has gotten busy and can’t come over as often, so I finally (with apologies) take back the design wall to work on the Make Do Patch-and-Coin Quilt.
December 27, 2015: I finish the backing for my friend and pin the quilt. It is now ready for quilting. Unfortunately my machine is being temperamental, so a friend of mine says she will get it quilted. I had it over to her along with half the money for the quilting service. It’s a surprise for my friend who still thinks the quilt is half finished and languishing in my house.
April 30, 2016: The quilt is back! Quilted and ready for binding.
May 10, 2016: The Saturday Improv Quilt is finished! We give it to my friend as a surprise and she is thrilled!
