Pinksplosion Checkered Nine-Patch Quilt Timeline
Started: March 16, 2013
Finished: November 5, 2016
March 16, 2013: In a fit of productivity, I decide to make each of my kids a twin-sized bed quilt. For my daughter I’m making this checkered nine-patch we’re calling “Pinksplosion,” and for my son, a simple two-color Green & White Pinwheel Quilt. I do all the math, pull and cut all the fabric. Whirlwind!
March 28, 2013: I make my first nine-patch as a test. It looks great!
April 21, 2013: I have been assembly sewing and now all of the strips for the blocks are complete.
January 4, 2014: All the nine-patch blocks are finished!
October 13, 2014: It takes age to hand cut the ticking stripe fabric to make the floral sashing, plus I get sidetracked with a whole bunch of other quilt projects, like the Vintage-Inspired Pink Triple Irish Chain Quilt, the Boho Squares Quilt and the Bright Pink Sunshine Squares Quilt, but eventually I get back to this quilt and put it on the design wall for assembly.
December 2, 2014: Top is done, backing is pieced and it is ready for pinning!
December 27, 2015: I’m really unsure about the sashing and the fabrics, so avoiding finishing it. Top is still waiting to be pinned and quilted.
January 6, 2016: Its been a busy couple of years and the top is still in the stack waiting to be pinned and quilted.
October 30, 2016: Lots of finishes this year! I’ve finished the Green & White Pinwheel Quilt, the Pink Sister Squares Quilt and the Saturday Improv Quilt so far. Now it’s time to quilt this one! Quilting has begun!
November 5, 2016: Still quilting! Almost done!
December 1, 2016: Quilting is done, binding is on and the Pinksplosion Checkered Nine-Patch Quilt is finished!
